Pyrenees to honour Remembrance Day
WITH Remembrance Day approaching on Tuesday, locals are invited to come together to honour those who lost their lives in service to their country. Both the Avoca and Beaufort RSL sub branches will host commemorative services for the community to attend.
In Beaufort, the service will take place at the cenotaph at the Beaufort Memorial Rose Garden.
Beaufort RSL’s Don Carnes said the morning would be one of quiet reflection and respect.
“The service will start at 10.50 and last post will be at 11 o’clock,” he said.
“It’s a sombre morning. It’s Remembrance Day for those who served and all those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.”
The ceremony will include a short address and an opportunity for attendees to lay wreaths in honour of the fallen.
Poppies will also be available for purchase outside Beaufort News & Tatts and IGA today, Saturday, and Monday ahead of Remembrance Day.
In Avoca, the commemorative service will be held at the Avoca Soldier Memorial in High Street, beginning at 10.45am, giving the community a chance to pause and remember together.
