Lightning strikes for Beaufort
Beaufort’s Under-12 netballers have claimed the 2026 Central Highlands Netball League Lightning Premiership title after an outstanding performance at Ballan on Sunday, May 17.
The Beaufort girls were dominant throughout the day, finishing on top of Pool C and the overall combined ladder after an unbeaten run through the qualifying rounds.
They opened the tournament in emphatic fashion, with a 17-0 victory over Creswick, before continuing their momentum with a 10-0 win against Daylesford. Beaufort then defeated Gordon 14-0, Learmonth 10-0 and Clunes 7-0 to head into finals as one of the standout teams of the competition.
After such a dominant start, Beaufort faced its toughest challenge in the qualifying final against Ballan. Despite a determined effort, the girls went down 5-2, forcing them into the preliminary final.
The setback only strengthened Beaufort’s resolve, with the team responding in brilliant fashion to defeat Carngham 14-3 and earn another shot at Ballan in the grand final.
The decider turned into an absolute thriller, with both sides fighting hard from start to finish. Scores were locked at 6-6 at full-time before Beaufort lifted again in extra time, showing composure and determination to come away with a memorable 10-8 victory and secure the premiership trophy.
The Beaufort Football Netball Club said it was incredibly proud of every player, praising the teamwork, resilience and support the girls displayed throughout the tournament.
