Information session to showcase policing careers
VICTORIA Police will host an information session in Ararat today (Sunday), giving prospective recruits the opportunity to learn more about a career in policing.
The session will be held from 11am to 2pm today at the Alexandra Oval Community Centre and will provide information on the role of a police officer, the recruitment process and training at the police academy.
Senior Sergeant Lisa McRae said Victoria Police was always looking to attract new members to the profession.
"We are proud of our diverse workforce and are always looking to welcome and add more members to our local community and community."
The information session will provide attendees with an insight into the realities of policing and the many career pathways available within the organisation.
Senior Sergeant McRae, who has served almost 20 years with Victoria Police, said the role offered a rewarding and varied career.
"It's a good job. It's not for everyone but it is a really rewarding career and it's really interesting. There's different areas you can specialise in or move around,” she said.
She said one of the major benefits of policing was the wide range of opportunities available throughout a career.
"There's so much you can do in this organisation. So you've got that flexibility too if there's a certain thing that interests you."
Across its various departments and specialist areas, the local policing network currently consists of close to 50 members serving the community of Ararat and beyond.
Anyone interested in learning more about becoming a police officer is encouraged to attend the free session.
