Trains return under Coalition promise
THE Liberal National Coalition will later today unveil a plan to return passenger train services to Mildura and the Wimmera.
An announcement is due to be made in Mildura today outlining a commitment to restore passenger rail services.
It's understood the Coalition plan will see a shuttle train run between Dimboola and Ararat to meet with the V/Locity passenger train to Melbourne.
The service will stop at Dimboola, Horsham and Stawell.
On the Mildura line, a similar shuttle service will be introduced between Mildura and Maryborough, where passengers will then switch trains and continue on to Melbourne.
The return of the Mildura service will benefit a number of communities including St Arnaud, Dunolly, Ouyen and Donald.
Both services were closed by the Kennett Government in the 1990s.
