New faces join the Advance Avoca committee
ADVANCE Avoca held its annual general meeting last week, announcing a refreshed committee for the year ahead. Rebecca Wardlaw reprised her position as president, with Brendan Veitch appointed vice president, Belinda Costigan as secretary, and Anthony Gollop as treasurer. Marg Pilgrim and Sarah Neil will take on membership and publicity roles. Last year’s vice president, Alana Burge and current committee member said, “It’s always handy to have someone like Bec, who’s affiliated with both council, local business and strong ties to the community as well, that’s always a bonus.” New on the committee is Brendan from Avoca Hotel, "Which is great to have him on board.” Additionally, local residents like Belinda Costigan, who Alana said is “A community member that’s heavily involved. It’s nice having all those, everyone being tied into together that can start making some decisions on how they want to move forward with Avoca.” Alana added that 12 locals attended this year’s AGM. “Those who didn’t get sworn in on a role came on board as committee members. To be able to get that momentum and for the people to be able to see what the group is doing this year, and be happy to come on board, I think it’s a really positive step.” Projects the group is already involved in include the Christmas street party and the town garage sale. They are also exploring funding options for new Christmas decorations. “This is something the town has been really quite vocal about over the years,” Alana said. The new committee will also look to continue the success and hope to continue their media campaign promoting Avoca and its community.
Committee member Alana Burge is eager to see Advance Avoca continue its success into the new year.
