Ladies, grab your fascinators
THE fun and frivolity of dressing up on Oaks Day is a time-honoured spring racing tradition at functions all around the nation, including an event in Stawell this year that’s returning from an extended hiatus. Local Red Cross fundraising supremos, Stawell Red Garters, are hosting an Oaks Day event at Stawell Golf Club on Thursday, November 6 which will include lunch and a whole heap of fun all afternoon.
Red Garter Oaks Day event organiser Mandi Hancock said she’s excited to see the return of an Oaks Day fundraiser to the volunteer group’s calendar.
“It’s the return of an old favourite,” said Ms Hancock.
“We did it for many years, but we haven’t done one since around 2011.”
“We decided back in June that we would start it up again this year, hopefully it’ll be a great day.”
The event is set to kick off at midday in the golf club function room, which boasts spectacular views out from the balcony overlooking the golf course.
“We’re starting at 12 noon, there will be a lunch, on arrival there will be nibbles and a complimentary glass of champagne or orange juice,” Ms Hancock said.
“There will be prizes awarded for lady of the day and hat of the day, and then we will have sweeps running for the big race.
“We’re asking the ladies to dress up and don a hat and come along for an enjoyable afternoon.”
Tickets are $40 per head from Monaghan’s Real Estate.
