AVOCA’s September market pleased organisers with visitor numbers up in the face of cool overnight conditions and a damp start to the morning.

Dog-spotters would have been pleased by the variety of breeds on parade through the thoroughfares lined with stalls.

The many food and drink stalls did a brisk trade during the morning, with something for everyone on offer by the various stall holders.

Regular stall holders are gearing up for the end of year seasonal and twilight markets.

The Avoca market committee this month used funds raised at the market’s entry gates to bring a duo of jugglers from Castlemaine to entertain marketgoers as well as conduct juggling workshops.

Sam and Luke, the jugglers behind ‘Thomas & Taylor’ previously known as the ‘Ginger Bees’, performed at Avoca’s ‘Play in the Pyrenees’ during May and were well received by those who were present, particularly the children.

On Sunday, Sam entertained everyone as he whizzed around the market, deftly spinning and changing direction this way and that on his unicycle.  Luke had would-be jugglers young and old laughing and keeping multiple balls in the air as they learnt some old juggling tricks.

Volunteers from the Amphitheatre Primary School operated the September market’s community barbeque.

Fiona Williamson and Megan Phelan who are running as candidates for the De Cameron ward in the upcoming local government elections were present at the market, meeting locals and listening to some of their concerns

The October Riverside Market is scheduled for Sunday 27 October during the Avoca Mega weekend of events.
