Glenorchy to host town-wide garage sale
THE small town of Glenorchy is gearing up for a day of community connection and bargain hunting, with a town-wide garage sale scheduled for Saturday, November 15. Running from 9am to 2pm, the event will see locals setting up stalls both outside their homes and at the Glenorchy Town Hall. A barbecue will also be held at the hall, with proceeds going toward maintaining the community building.
The Glenorchy Town Hall Committee, which is organising the event, hopes the day will not only encourage visitors to stop by but also raise funds to support the hall’s ongoing operation.
Hall committee secretary Elisa Dunstan said the building plays a vital role in the life of the small community, serving as more than just a meeting space.
“The hall is a cornerstone of Glenorchy,” Ms Dunstan said.
“The post office operates three days a week at the hall, and it’s where people gather for local events. We want to make sure it continues to function for years to come.”
She said the committee regularly organises community activities such as casserole nights, movie screenings, and weekly coffee club meetings.
Every Easter, the hall also becomes a hub for the Good Friday Appeal, hosting games, entertainment, and auctions to raise funds for the Melbourne Royal Children’s Hospital.
Adding to its cultural appeal, the Glenorchy Hall is also part of the annual ‘Festival of Small Halls’, a touring event that brings top folk and contemporary acoustic musicians to perform in regional towns across Australia.
Residents and visitors alike are encouraged to get involved in the garage sale. Those wishing to host a stall can email hallglenorchy@gmail.com. The cost will be $5.
