Getting into the Christmas spirit
THE fun and joy of spreading Christmas cheer will light up the Stawell Entertainment Centre towards the end of November for the Stawell Christmas Tree Festival. The event is hosted by the Stawell Country Women’s Association and is an opportunity for the community to have some light-hearted fun in the lead up to Christmas, as well as celebrate the creativity of entrants into the tree competition.
Stawell CWA volunteer Julie Cass is excited about the Christmas tree event, which the CWA group jumped in to run after a local church had started it years ago.
“The Lutheran Church used to do it, but they became a smaller group and decided they couldn’t do it anymore,” said Ms Cass.
“So we as a body of local women decided we didn’t want to see it fold, we wanted to keep the Christmas spirit, and therefore we took it on.”
The festival comprises of a competition with several categories to win prizes in, including for Christmas trees, table centrepieces, cards, a colouring competition, best wrapped gift box, wreath, stocking and gingerbread house.
“The community enters their exhibits, and they’re judged on the Friday night, and the displays are open to the public to have a look at them over the weekend,” said Ms Cass.
Entry forms for the competition are available at Stawell library, Sneak A Peak and Stawell Craft Shop, and entries must be submitted by November 19, for more information about the competition call Julie Cass on 0422 504 460.
The Stawell Christmas Tree Festival is on Saturday (10am to 4pm) and Sunday (10am to 3pm), November 29 and 30 at Stawell Entertainment Centre in Main Street.
