Festival kicks off today

THE popular Stawell Christmas Tree Festival kicks off this morning. Hosted by the Stawell Country Women’s Association, the festival is an opportunity for the community to have some light-hearted fun in the lead up to Christmas, as well as celebrate the creativity of entrants. The festival comprises of a competition with several categories to win prizes including for Christmas trees, table centrepieces, cards, a colouring competition, best wrapped gift box, wreath, stocking and gingerbread house. Stawell CWA volunteer Julie Cass said judging took place last night behind closed doors ahead of the festival opening at 10am this morning (Saturday). “The community enters their exhibits, and they’re judged on the Friday night, and the displays are open to the public to have a look at them over the weekend,” said Ms Cass. The festival at the Stawell Entertainment Centre opens today (Saturday) at 10am with the Stawell City Brass Band performing at 11am. Entry to the festival is $5 per person, under 15 free. Freshly made Devonshire tea available for purchase. The festival is open to the public from 10am to 4pm Saturday and 10am to 3pm on Sunday. Families can also arrange for a photo with Santa for a gold coin donation on Saturday from 10am to 12pm and from 2pm to 4pm and from 10am to 12pm Sunday.
