This is an official emergency warning announcement issued by Incident Controller Tony Miles.

Please broadcast this Warning VERBATIM. The "Safety Information" and "Stay Informed" sections of the Warning should be broadcast at least once at the end of the announcement in the case of multiple warnings.

Broadcasters should break in to programming to broadcast this emergency announcement, preceded by the Standard Emergency Warning Signal (SEWS). The announcement is to be repeated 5 mins after the original break in to programming, including SEWS.

After this time there is no further need for SEWS for this specific warning, please revert to reading the warning every 15 minutes in line with the Practice Note for Emergency Broadcasting in Victoria.

If an updated warning is received, please start these broadcasting instructions anew.

This Emergency Warning is being issued for Moyreisk, Natte Yallock, Redbank, Stuart Mill.

  • There is a grassfire travelling from the north in a south-easterly direction towards Moyreisk that is not yet under control.

  • People at Peacock Road - Coates Road area should leave immediately.

  • People should travel South along the Sunraysia Hwy towards Ballarat

  • Don't go through the fire area.

  • This Emergency Warning replaces the Watch and Act message issued at 11.20am.

The Peacock Road and Coates road could be impacted anytime. Leaving immediately is the safest option, before conditions become too dangerous.

What you should do

  • When you leave take your pets, medications, mobile phone and charger.

Travel to:

  • The home of family or friends that is away from the warning area.

In the car:

  • If you are travelling, do not enter the area. Make a u-turn and travel to safety.

  • Slow down and turn on your headlights; smoke will make it difficult to see.

Emergency services may not be able to help you if you decide to stay.

If you are unable to leave, seek shelter indoors:

  • Close all exterior doors, windows and vents.

  • Turn off cooling systems.

  • You must take shelter before the fire arrives. The extreme heat is likely to harm you well before the flames reach you.

  • Shelter in a room that has two exits, such as a door or window, including one directly to the outside. It is important to be able to see outside so you know what is happening with the fire.

  • If your home catches on fire and the conditions inside become unbearable, you need to get out and go to an area that has already been burnt.

Impacts in your area:

  • The Sunraysia Highway is closed to the public but open for people leaving the area.

This messages was issued by Country Fire Authority.

The next update is expected by 07/01/2026 02:20 pm or as the situation changes.
