Ararat Women’s Shed to host its first market
The Ararat Women’s Shed is inviting locals to shop, sell and de-stash at its first-ever market today (Saturday) from 10am to 2pm at the Alexandra Oval Community Centre.
With a limited number of tables still available, the market is a chance for local makers and collectors to sell art, craft, design work and supplies they’re ready to pass on. Visitors can browse handmade soaps, posters, stickers, art, wool, fabrics, buttons, knitting needles, lingerie and more.
Ararat Women’s Shed founder Rowena Murray said the market would be especially welcoming for people learning a new craft.
“De-stashing is what happens when you look at your pile of fabric, wool or other supplies and realise it’s grown bigger than you can use,” Ms Murray said. “Rather than leave those things sitting in a cupboard, you can pass them on to someone who’ll love them. It’s a great way to pick up a bargain, especially if you’re learning and want to try something new without spending a lot.”
Stalls cost $10 each, and entry is $5, with Shed members admitted free. Stall and entry proceeds will support the Ararat Women’s Shed. Free tea and coffee will be available.
The Shed will also have a stand at the market where visitors can make a donation or sign up as members.
“We couldn’t believe we had over a dozen bookings for stall holders in the first 24 hours, and now we’d love to fill the remaining tables and see plenty of people through the doors,” Ms Murray said.
“Whether you’re selling, searching for your next project or just coming for a look, help us make our first market a good one.”
