The operations form part of the Victorian Deer Control Strategy, a state‑wide program designed to manage the impacts of increasing deer populations on the environment, cultural heritage, agriculture, and public safety.

For public safety, both Langi Ghiran and Mount Buangor State Parks (including campgrounds and visitor sites) will be closed during daylight hours while shooting operations are underway.

Temporary park closure signage will be in place at campgrounds, visitor sites, and key entry points, and Parks Victoria officers will patrol the operational areas to ensure that no members of the public are present during the aerial work.

Parks Victoria has advised that the aerial shooting will be conducted by licensed, professional, and experienced contractors operating under strict protocols and animal welfare standards.

The program aims to reduce pest animal numbers to lessen impacts on nearby farms and vineyards, including damage to fencing, crops, and pasture.

Further details, including maps of the operational areas and closure notifications, are available on the Parks Victoria website, and enquiries can be made by calling 13 19 63 or visiting www.parks.vic.gov.au.
